Employment Group
Membership
This is a rather more specialised working group in that the council generally has just one employee, the Parish Clerk, and only Parish Councillors are on the group.
It is expected that members will familiarise themselves with relevant information such as ‘Being a Good Employer: A guide for Parish and Town Councillors’ and material such as is available at http://www.acas.org.uk
Current members of the group are Cllrs Tim Jones (Chair) Kevin Braybrook, Gareth Williams and Sue Eames.
Roles and responsibilities
The Employment Group responsibilities include:
Conducting the Clerk’s Annual Appraisal.
Developing procedures for dealing with complaints, grievance & disciplinary matters.
Monitoring contracts with external organisations for products and services.
Reviewing the Councillor handbook periodically.
Overseeing the recruitment of a new Clerk (when necessary)
A recommendation on future training, areas for development and pay scale are presented to the council for consideration as and when appropriate. At least once a year (June) the Working Group meets to ensure that the correct documentation is in place for engaging contractors.
