Community service awards

Many people devote themselves to keeping our village institutions afloat and running well, but there are some who go that extra mile, people who deserve particular recognition for the time and effort they put into the community.

Each year the Parish Council asks the community to nominate people deserving of the award. The council are now taking nominations for 2024. If you would like to make a nomination, please follow the links below to download the nomination forms, and email them to the Clerk at clerk@fownhopeparishcouncil.gov.uk

Community Service Award Past Winners

In 2012 twenty six people who live or work in Fownhope, or who have done so in the past, were presented with community service awards for "outstanding and sustained service to the Fownhope Community" This was a special jubilee event, marking contributions made between 1952 and 2012, and the presentation at the foot of this page was shown during the evening.

In 2013 a further four people were presented with awards - in our picture here you'll see Jane Straker, David Straker, the Chair of the Parish Council David Clark, Chris Roberts and Pam Pettitt.

Jane and David Straker have been stalwarts for sustainability within the village, founding the Fownhope Carbon Reduction Action Group, Chris Roberts has worked tirelessly to transform a muddy damp patch in the recreation field into a beautiful pond and Pam Pettitt has managed "Flicks in the Sticks" for many years, choosing the films shown and providing entertainment and stimulation for us all.
