Fownhope sits within the Wye Valley National Landscape – an area of outstanding natural beauty.
We have numerous nature reserves within the village, and close by, that are available for anyone to visit.

Common Hill
A patchwork of small meadows and orchards, rich in wildlife.
Lea & Pagets Wood
One of the finest, ancient, semi-natural broad-leaved woodlands left in the Wye Valley National Landscape.
Rudge End Quarry
An old quarry site with an interesting calcicole flora.
Nupend Wood
Ancient woodland with typical ground flora including an abundance of bluebells in spring.

Ail Meadow
Ail Meadow is a lowland pasture that lies within the wonderful, wildlife-rich landscape of the Woolhope Dome.
Joan’s Hill Farm
Around 50 acres of beautifully preserved meadowland, rich and diverse in wildlife including many rare wildflowers.
Broadmoor Common
An area of species-rich grassland and managed scrub with a number of distinct habitats and a rich diversity of wildlife.
Pentaloe Glen & Convallaria Area
Ancient semi natural woodland rich in vegetation in Mordiford.
Wessington Pasture
Pasture and woodland, home to a wide variety of wildlife in Woolhope.
