Lechmere Hall facilities
The Lechmere Hall is a very flexible, general purpose facility that is ideal for a wide range of activities including various sports, meetings, lectures, dances, concerts and parties.
There’s a well-equipped kitchen with a service door leading onto the Lechmere Hall and also an entrance from the main entrance lobby. There is a wide serving hatch with doors that are normally kept closed, but can be opened when food is being served.
Kitchen equipment includes:
- Rangemaster electric cooker with infra-red hob.
- Microwave oven.
- Commercial dishwasher.
- Three sinks (for hand-washing, washing cooking pans and crockery etc).
- Small refrigerator.
- Three electric kettles and an electric urn.
- A heated, mobile serving trolley.
- Crockery, water glasses and cutlery for up to a hundred guests is provided, along with a range of cooking and serving items.
- An “instant heat” gas boiler provides hot water.
- Crockery, water glasses and cutlery for up to a hundred guests is provided, along with a range of cooking and serving items.
- Two large, variable speed extractor fans, one over the the cooker and the other over the dishwasher.
- Heating from kick-space heaters mounted at the bottom of the cabinets.
There is a door to the bar area from the Lechmere Hall and an adjacent serving hatch with its own door.
Part of the bar area (not shown in the photographs) is used for storing the mats trolley used by our Short Mat Bowling Club. Please note that if you wish to sell alcoholic drinks then you will need to obtain a Temporary Event Notice from Herefordshire Council.
If you would like a pay bar provided for your event, then we might be able to provide one for you. Please discuss this with our Booking Secretary when you make your booking.
Bar equipment includes:
- Pint, half-pint and wine glasses.
- Worktop glass washer.
- Drinks cooler.
- Serving work top, behind the serving hatch, which is suitable for mounting a beer pump.
There are 3 female WCs, 1 male WC plus 2 urinals, and a disabled WC.
There is a small cloakroom for storing coats etc. A portable lectern for talks and some small card tables are also stored in this room.
The Lechmere Hall has a variable ceiling, divided into eight panels (four on each side), that can be raised individually according to individual requirements. Normally the ceiling is in the lower position, but if you require it to be raised for your event, please inform our Booking Secretary at the time of booking.
The lighting is extremely flexible and can provide bright lighting from efficient LED strip lights or more subdued lighting from downlighters in the ceiling. Banks of downlighters in each of the eight separate ceiling panels can be individually switched.
Modular staging is stored in our external storage room and we can install and configure this to your requirements, for a small additional charge. We also have theatre style LED stage lighting, which can be provided for a fee.
A large, pull-down projector screen is provided at one end of the Hall for film shows, talks etc. The Hall has its own audio-visual equipment, but these are not normally for use by general users. We can, for a small charge, provide a technician to operate these for you.
Heating is from four fan convector heaters that allow the Lechmere Hall to be warmed to a comfortable temperature fairly rapidly. There is a digital thermostat, so that the room temperature can be set for your individual requirements. The heating is turned on using a mechanical, two-hour count-down timer situated in the storage room.
There are external, double-glazed windows on two of the four walls and some of these can be opened to improve ventilation. Each of the windows has a blind, as well as curtains, so that full black-out can be obtained even in day time.
Ventilation fans are provided and these can be switched on from the main switchboard adjacent to our main entrance door. Because of the recent covid pandemic, we have also installed a carbon dioxide monitor to ensure that adequate ventilation is provided for the numbers using the hall. This turns on one of the fans automatically if the ventilation is inadequate.
Free broadband Wifi is available throughout the building.

The Furniture Storage room has fold away tables, of two different sizes, and unholstered chairs available for use. It also houses four table tennis tables, two of which are available for use. (The other two belong to our Table Tennis Club.) This room also has a mechanical count-down timer for controlling the central heating.
There is also an external store which houses additional tables and plastic seats, our modular staging, maintenance equipment as well as equipment for the Taekwondo Club.
The floor is marked out for Badminton.
