Working in Lea & Pagets Wood, splitting an oak trunk to make fence posts

Join our friendly and active group as we carry out conservation work in local nature reserves.

It’s always a good day in the woods 🙂

Over this winter and spring we will be working in a new compartment in Lea & Paget’s Wood: coppicing, felling, tree planting and fencing.

Coppicing is an ancient woodland management technique that was once used to ensure a regular supply of timber and firewood. Coppicing also creates a range of habitats for plants and wildlife – dramatically increasing the diversity of species that thrive in these areas.

Where oak is felled, we will be manufacturing (by hand) risers and posts for new footsteps that we will install in Nupend Wood over the summer months.

If you would like to come along and help your local wildlife, contact Martin Hales at wildwaysmartin@btinternet.com or call him on 01432 860438.
