Dawn Chorus – A Song Walk
May 5 2024 @ 5:00 am - 7:00 am
Free
… an invitation to join us as we celebrate the arrival of May.
This bank holiday weekend – on the RSPB ‘National Dawn Chorus Day’ – join us bright and really very early to catch the beauty of our village May dawn chorus.
In a guided walk, we will make our way up onto Common Hill in time for the sunrise, listening to the uplifting symphony of the birdsong around us as we go. Then we’ll do some simple shared listening, and singing – led by Kate Gathercole who co-leads the village choir – briefly adding our own voices to the songs on the air, joining in on the chorus ….
Walking back down Common Hill Lane to the village, we’ll pause to listen to birdsong along the way – with a few locals on hand who can help us identify many of our more common birds, and using the brilliant ‘Merlin App’ to help us with any that we don’t recognise.
Back in the village at The Pavilion, coffee and pastries will be waiting for us thanks to the Fownhope Environment Group. … And there will be time for some fun singing traditional May morning folk carols – with the support of Fownhope Community Folk Choir – for anyone who would like to join in.
When: Sunday 5th May.
Time: 5am!! At Fiveways – with breakfast in the village at The Pavilion from 6am.
Meeting place: ‘Fiveways’ on Common Hill (just up at the top of the Pitch – past the phone box and Water Pump).
Who: Everyone is welcome – all ages, old and young.
Where to park: Please park at the Fownhope Medical Centre Carpark and walk up the hill from there – unfortunately there is only room for 1 or 2 cars to park at Fiveways.
Cost: This event is free for everyone, though a few donations would be welcome to cover the cost of room hire and croissants!
This is a Fownhope Environment Group event, and part of our Dark Skies series of village events for 2024.
