Create a Moon Meadow: Help Night-time Pollinators
A Moon Meadow is a green space or planted area, such as a pot, which is filled with plants that benefit our night-time pollinators like moths.
There are around 2,500 species of moth in the UK – 100 species in a typical back garden – and they come in all shapes, sizes and colours. While butterflies might get most of the limelight, moths are just as colourful and are also amazing pollinators too. The image at the top of the page is an Elephant Hawk-moth.
They’re an important part of the food web. Adults and moth caterpillars are a vital food source for lots of other wildlife, including bats, birds, amphibians and more.
Sadly, overall moth numbers have fallen by 33% since the late 1960s.
Read the guide below to discover how you can create a moon meadow at home and in your local area and help our night-time pollinators thrive.
