DESCRIPTION:CPRE Dark Skies Herefordshire Project:  Measuring Light Pollution \n\nHere’s an exciting opportunity to be part of a county wide initiative measuring the quality of our night skies.  Dark Skies Herefordshire have purchased 7 sky quality meters for measuring light pollution.  We are arranging our first light measuring session in April\, and have organised the training session for 7pm on Tuesday 2nd April at the Green Man. \nOur readings need to be taken on a clear night four days before or after the new moon on the 8th April\, so our survey window is between 3rd and 13th April. To take part\, you would need to be available between 2nd April (for the training) and the 13th April. \nThe project employs a data analyser who will receive the data collected and transcribe it into a report.  Places are limited so please get in touch if you’d like to be involved.

DESCRIPTION:The Community Library was opened in 2012\, with the help of the Parish Council and use of the Community Room at Faulkner House. \nIt is a warm comfortable room with easy chairs and everyone is welcome for a chat and a cuppa. \nThere is a large selection of fiction and non-fiction\, and a strong section on local history\, travel and walking books/OS maps. \nWith over 5000 items including DVDs and CDs and a good choice of children’s books\, there is something for everyone. \nWe have excellent links with St Mary’s School and welcome pre-school children every Wednesday in term time to borrow books and hear a story. \nAll residents of Fownhope and nearby villages are eligible to join and membership is free thanks to the friendly volunteer team\, help from the Parish Council and donations from the Friends of Fownhope Library.

DESCRIPTION:Indigo Warriors is a revolutionary activity program for boys and girls aged 5 to 8. It uses proven peak performance coaching techniques that top sports people and business leaders use to develop positive values\, winning attitudes and key life skills. Children attend weekly classes. The classes use a combination of mental and physical development exercises\, peaceful martial arts and games to inspire and motivate. The culmination of the programme is to have developed every child’s confidence\, self esteem\, communication skills and leadership so that they are able to lead a class of 12-15 children\, for 10 minutes\, on their own. \nTaekwon-do brings together power & grace in an exciting and fulfilling martial arts practice. It is a Korean art of unarmed combat for self defence\, physical development\, personal development\, sport\, fun and friendship. It’s roots stretch back over 1\,000 years and with that it has positive philosophical teachings in addition to physical development. It is the most popular martial art in the world practiced by over 80 million people and offers people of differing ages and interests a multitude of benefits. DESCRIPTION:CPRE Dark Skies Herefordshire Project:  Measuring Light Pollution \n\nAs part of a county wide initiative measuring the quality of our night skies\, we’ll be walking around the village taking readings with sky quality meters to measure light pollution. \nOur readings need to be taken on a clear night four days before or after the new moon on the 8th April\, so our survey window is between 3rd and 13th April. 9th April is looking like the only evening with no cloud cover. \nOnce the readings are taken\, they will be transcribed onto a map to give a visual representation of lighter and darker areas. \nUPDATE:  you can see the map showing the readings taken here.  \nWe’ll need to carry out the readings over a number of months to build up an adequate picture. So if you’d like to be involved in future surveys\, please get in touch.

DESCRIPTION:The Community Library was opened in 2012\, with the help of the Parish Council and use of the Community Room at Faulkner House. \nIt is a warm comfortable room with easy chairs and everyone is welcome for a chat and a cuppa. \nThere is a large selection of fiction and non-fiction\, and a strong section on local history\, travel and walking books/OS maps. \nWith over 5000 items including DVDs and CDs and a good choice of children’s books\, there is something for everyone. \nWe have excellent links with St Mary’s School and welcome pre-school children every Wednesday in term time to borrow books and hear a story. \nAll residents of Fownhope and nearby villages are eligible to join and membership is free thanks to the friendly volunteer team\, help from the Parish Council and donations from the Friends of Fownhope Library.

It uses proven peak performance coaching techniques that top sports people and business leaders use to develop positive values\, winning attitudes and key life skills. Children attend weekly classes. The classes use a combination of mental and physical development exercises\, peaceful martial arts and games to inspire and motivate. The culmination of the programme is to have developed every child’s confidence\, self esteem\, communication skills and leadership so that they are able to lead a class of 12-15 children\, for 10 minutes\, on their own. \nTaekwon-do brings together power & grace in an exciting and fulfilling martial arts practice. It is a Korean art of unarmed combat for self defence\, physical development\, personal development\, sport\, fun and friendship. It’s roots stretch back over 1\,000 years and with that it has positive philosophical teachings in addition to physical development. It is the most popular martial art in the world practiced by over 80 million people and offers people of differing ages and interests a multitude of benefits. SUMMARY:A Day in the Woods
DESCRIPTION:Join our friendly and active group as we carry out conservation work in local nature reserves. \nIt’s always a good day in the woods 🙂 \nOver this winter and spring we will be working in a new compartment in Lea & Paget’s Wood: coppicing\, felling\, tree planting and fencing. \nCoppicing is an ancient woodland management technique that was once used to ensure a regular supply of timber and firewood. Coppicing also creates a range of habitats for plants and wildlife – dramatically increasing the diversity of species that thrive in these areas. \nWhere oak is felled\, we will be manufacturing (by hand) risers and posts for new footsteps that we will install in Nupend Wood over the summer months. \nIf you would like to come along and help your local wildlife\, contact Martin Hales at wildwaysmartin@btinternet.com or call him on 01432 860438. \n  \n
