SUMMARY:Community Folk Choir
DESCRIPTION:Fownhope Seasonal Community Folk Choir – Winter Songs. \nOne of a series of seasonal community choirs through the year\, with song sharing in the spring\, summer\, autumn and winter. \n  \nJoin us to learn some of the Herefordshire Carols collected locally by Ella Mary Leather and Ralph Vaughan Williams\, and some of the carols that are part of the Sheffield Village Carol tradition. \nThis is in preparation for three Sunday afternoons of pub carolling in Fownhope through December – or just come along to these two November sessions because you would like to learn the songs and enjoy some singing. \nAll songs will be taught by ear\, and no experience is necessary. All voices are welcome\, there is no audition\, and no-one will be asked to sing on their own. No music reading is required. \n  \nTo book a place – or for any more information about the Village Carols – please email kate@aluladown.uk \nFor the sessions at the Pavilion we usually ask for a small donation of around £5 per session towards costs.

I know you’re really coming out for the Christmas Tractor Run (I’ve heard the excitement…)\, but if you’ve got a moment before the big parade\, I’d love you to drop by. \nI’ll be waiting by the Pavilion from 4:30pm to 5:30pm\, along with some very kind humans serving mulled wine – alcoholic and non-alcoholic varietes – and mince pies. Consider it a gentle warm-up before you wander over to Coo Corner for your hot chocolate and hot dogs — I hear they’re excellent at keeping fingers and spirits toasty. \nThen at around 6:10pm\, the tractors will sweep through in all their glowing\, jingling glory. I don’t blame you for rushing off — it’s quite the spectacle\, even from where I’m sitting. \nSo come early\, say hello\, lean back for a minute\, and then head off to claim your perfect tractor-spotting position. Born and bred in Dymock and now Fownhope resident\, Gabe is the world’s foremost cider expert. He has worked in the industry for 20 years\, firstly making cider at Broome Farm\, Peterstow and Westons before moving into a Corporate Communications role for Bulmers (Heineken). A stint making cider and wine in New Zealand followed before a return to the UK to establish The Ciderologist. \nAs well as undertaking fun and informative tasting sessions\, Gabe has written books (one of which will be available to purchase on the night)\, is a global cider judge\, cider sommelier\, educator and resident cider expert on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch. \nThe session will involve tasting five different ciders\, some from near and some from far that showcases cider’s great quality and diversity. \nWassail! \n£20 Please contact Sue Pope to book a place. \nAdvance booking is essential.  \nWe are always looking for new suggestions for further workshops/talks – requests for different subjects and fresh ideas are always welcome. DESCRIPTION:The Fownhope Environment Group brings together village people and Parish Council to undertake activities that benefit the environment of Fownhope and positively impact climate and ecology. This year’s theme for our local work together is Habitats\, though we also cover a range of local interests and activities relating to biodiversity\, carbon reduction and climate. \nOver the past few years the group has been busy – including: \n\nSetting up Fownhope’s popular Community Car Club\nDeveloping the always-ready-for-action ‘Fownhope Wheelbarrows’ group – taking on works that help care for our local environment\nDeveloping and promoting the village ‘Dark Skies’ policy and activities\nSupporting Citizen Science activities to assess pollution of local waterways including the River Wye\nDeveloping Fownhope Parish Council’s Declaration of a Climate Emergency – and working with local partners to put in place actions to support this declaration\nArranging village visits to Envirosort\, and liaising with Herefordshire Council to understand and share recycling opportunities locally\nFundraising and coordinating the installation of the community EV charger that now lives beside the Pavilion\nSupporting the planting of local native plants in hedgerows of Freemans new build houses\nDeveloping a sequence of ‘Activity Sunday’ events that brought varied environmental experts along to the village\n… initiating conversations about the development of this very calendar as a resource for local activities.\n\nEveryone is welcome to come along to our meetings – they are friendly and fun\, and usually last about an hour – sometimes a little longer. \nThe group is currently co-chaired by Gareth Williams (from the Parish Council) and Kate Gathercole (from the local community). \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:The Community Library was opened in 2012\, with the help of the Parish Council and use of the Community Room at Faulkner House. \nIt is a warm comfortable room with easy chairs and everyone is welcome for a chat and a cuppa. \nThere is a large selection of fiction and non-fiction\, and a strong section on local history\, travel and walking books/OS maps. \nWith over 5000 items including DVDs and CDs and a good choice of children’s books\, there is something for everyone. \nWe have excellent links with St Mary’s School and welcome pre-school children every Wednesday in term time to borrow books and hear a story. \nAll residents of Fownhope and nearby villages are eligible to join and membership is free thanks to the friendly volunteer team\, help from the Parish Council and donations from the Friends of Fownhope Library.
